HiSET Pretesting (GED)
If you're an adult without a high school diploma, the High School Equivalency Test (HiSET™) could be your route to improved career prospects, further education, and increased earnings potential. HiSET™ replaces the GED in Maine.
HiSET™ provides adults with the opportunity to obtain a high school equivalency certification with the same legal standing as a high school diploma. Through a pre-testing, preparation, and testing program, it allows test-takers to demonstrate proficiency in the academic skills and knowledge expected by employers and post-secondary institutions. HiSET™ consists of five subtests:
Language arts- Reading
Language Arts- Writing
Mathematics
Science
Social Studies
Once enrolled, students take and pass the Official HiSET Practice Test then schedule the tests at one of our testing locations (Machias, Calais, and for members of the Passamaquoddy tribe at Indian Township). In most cases, the full battery of tests are not given on the same day. Call our office to schedule the exams.

HiSET Reading Test Prep (GED)

Get ready for the HiSET Language Arts-Reading exam with our Reading Test Prep course, facilitated by experienced instructors Valerie Lawson and Oksana Dunn. This course is designed to improve your ability to recall and comprehend information, equipping you with essential skills for reading success.
Required Materials:
- A desktop or laptop for optimal studying (smartphone use not recommended).
- Basic supplies: Notebook, pencil, pen, or note-taking apps.
Class Participation & Course Grading:
- Either in-person or online, providing flexibility for self-paced learning.
- Individual support available. Reach out to the instructor for assistance.
- Pass/Fail grading system.
- Successful completion of the official practice test qualifies learners to take the HiSET Reading exam.
